If you’ve ever met a Tesla driver you’ll know just how much they love their car - because they won’t stop telling you how amazing it is. And with good reason. Because Tesla is well known for rolling out new technology that makes its cars stand out from the crowd. Here’s our top ten pieces of Tesla tech that set these cars apart.
1 - Tune up your Tesla without a trip to the garage
Ever wanted to squeeze a little more speed from your car? With a Tesla you can. And you won’t even need to go to the garage to make it happen. For Model 3 dual motor owners, a $2,000 payment and a quick update to the car’s digital brain and they gained a half-second boost to their 0-60mph speed taking it from 4.4 to 3.9 seconds. That’s a fuss-free option not available with fossil-fueled cars and even other electric vehicles (EVs).
2 - On-board infotainment is always improving
One of the best things about electric cars is that they can get better over time with software updates. So when the Tesla Models X, S and 3 received the software 10 upgrade back in 2019 even more fun was added to the cars’ infotainment systems. Now drivers can connect their Netflix, YouTube, and Hulu or Hulu + Live TV accounts to watch their favorite shows, movies and content from their car while parked up.
As if that wasn’t enough entertainment, Tesla’s Car-aoke feature gives drivers access to a massive library of music and song lyrics so passengers can sing along on the go. And anyone with a Spotify Premium account can also connect this to the in-car entertainment system to enjoy all their favourite playlists.
3 - Call your car to you
The same software 10 update that added all the entertainment updates also added Smart Summon to cars where Full Self-Driving Capability or Enhanced Autopilot had been included. This feature enables drivers to get their Tesla to navigate a parking lot and come to them, or their destination of choice, as long as the car is within their line of sight. Perfect for people with full hands, a stuffed shopping trolley or a tired child who simply won’t walk any further.
4 - Market-leading navigation with a twist
Beyond the Tesla’s lauded navigation system is a relatively new addition - the restaurants and destinations feature. This allows drivers to select the ‘I’m feeling lucky’ or ‘I’m feeling hungry’ options and then plots a journey into the satnav taking driver and passengers on an exciting adventure to a new restaurant or place of interest within the car’s range. Great for indecisive people and anyone who likes an adventure.
5 - Super safe and secure
Tesla’s are well known for being very safe both on the road and off it. But it’s the brand’s sentry mode that makes it stand out by helping the car fend for itself. If anyone tries to break into the vehicle, disconnect the charger or harm the car in any other way, the Tesla will flash its lights and blare the horn. Which would be enough to put off anyone trying to tamper with your Tesla!
6 - You can charge for free
You’ve probably seen the sleek Tesla charging points at motorway service stations. What you might not know is that the destination chargers - located in parking spots where you’re likely to spend more time - are free to use for Tesla drivers. These fast chargers, typically providing 22kWh of charge, are intended to top up a Tesla battery over the course of a couple of hours, so the car’s ready to go, full of free electricity.
7 - Tesla batteries are created using less water than 31 cups of coffee
According to Dr. Maximilian Fichtner, director at the Helmholtz Institute for Electrochemical Energy Storage in Germany, it takes 3,840l of water to produce a 64 kWh battery pack. That’s the same amount of water needed to produce 250 grams of beef, 30 cups of coffee or half a pair of jeans.
If you decide to drive a Tesla, you can guarantee that the company and your car will never stand still. With continuous improvements to the software, hardware and battery, it’s no wonder Tesla drivers are the company’s biggest advocates.
