We talk to MG about the new MG4

The MG marque is steeped in heritage with its classic British sports cars often the staple of shows and owner’s clubs alike. However, the future is electric, and MG is showing that it is really flourishing as this paradigm shifts.

The rebirth of MG has already established it as a maker of great value vehicles. Much of the range offers generous equipment, but more recently its electric vehicles have been scoring highly amongst critics. Its MG5 EV became the UK’s first electrified estate car, and the MG ZS EV features a competitive range and rapid charging.

On the subject of MG’s electrification, David Allison MG Motor UK’s Head of Product & Planning, said: “The electric vehicle market is now a crucial sector for all manufacturers – we’re proud to be establishing ourselves as a company at the forefront of affordable electrified motoring, with a range of cars that each offer outstanding design, safety and driving experience.”

While the MG5 EV and ZS EV laid the foundations for the brand’s electric future, it’s the recently launched MG4 hatchback that represents the true dawning of a new age for MG. Serving as MG’s first bespoke electric car that sits on its own platform, the dynamically-styled model possesses more than just head-turning looks. The MG4 undercuts competitors in the class, something that will open electric car ownership up to even more people. With a starting price of £25,995, it is often £10,000 cheaper than rivals.

The MG4 has been well received by the world’s media, gaining praise for its compliant ride and plentiful standard equipment. A range of up to 281 miles and standard 150kW rapid charging means a 0-80% zap takes just 35 minutes – making this car a viable proposition to those even without home charging facilities.

Allison has high hopes for the new MG4 saying: “The MG4 EV has received a fantastic reception so far and we believe it will be an incredibly popular choice with customers looking for a combination of space, technology and driver engagement at an amazing price.”

MG has no intention of standing still, and aims to carry this momentum forwards into future products. The MG Cyberster concept car reignited the notion of the marque building exciting sporting products as it has done in the past – but now for an electrified age. While David Allison couldn’t comment explicitly on future product, he did say “we do understand there is demand for affordable, high-performance cars within the MG range. We’d love to do this sort of car as it would be very well suited to our brand, given our heritage.” That will be music to the ears of true MG fans the world over.

Electric cars can deliver great savings in terms of running costs thanks to requiring fewer service items and combating rising fuel prices at the pumps. You’ll also benefit from a substantially lower BIK rate by opting for an EV. Salary sacrifice is an affordable way to get behind the wheel of a new electric vehicle with one simple monthly payment covering everything from insurance to breakdown cover. Tusker has a wide range of the most popular electric vehicles available via its excellent salary sacrifice scheme.
