New Electric SUVs causing a buzz in 2023

Jeep Avenger

Jeeps are arguably the father of all 4×4 vehicles on the road today, and its cars have continued a stoic tradition of being unstoppable off-road. Entering the world of electrified motoring is the Jeep Avenger, this bold new model combines distinctive American design with impressive electric tech.

Capable of covering 249 miles, or more when used around town, its 54kWh battery provides good range and can rapidly charge at up to 100kW, meaning that a 20-80% charge can take as little as 24 minutes.

BYD Atto 3

Not aware of BYD? This Chinese manufacturer joins the many new names in the EV arena and majors in impressive tech. Standing for Build Your Dreams, the BYD Atto 3 is an SUV that presents a premium look and headline-grabbing features such as a rotating 15.8-inch screen.

A 60.5kWh battery results in a pleasing 260-mile range and its 150kW rapid charging capabilities mean you won’t be stationary for long. Charged at its fastest rate, a 30-80% replenishment takes 29 minutes.

Following on from the Polestar 2, this all-electric SUV brings a sense of Swedish style to the segment. The clean design continues inside where a large 14.5-inch portrait touchscreen display dominates the dashboard. This spacious cabin seats five with a 484-litre boot, a combination that should make it ideal for families.

Beneath its sleek silhouette is a battery with 107kWh usable capacity provides a fantastic range of 379 miles. It’s quick to charge too – a 250kW rapid charge from 10-80% takes only 30 minutes. This might be the perfect solution for those who are commuting longer distances.

Lotus Eletre

A Lotus SUV? Joining its other high-performance counterparts, Lotus is joining the electric SUV club with the new Eletre. If you’re looking for something executive and packed full of tech, but also want an exciting new car, this is the EV you’ve been waiting for.

Possessing Lotus’ signature handling that aims to please, its SUV styling also makes it the most practical Lotus ever. Capable of 0-62mph in just 4.5 seconds in its fastest guise, suddenly popping to the shops is a tempting proposition. Driven sensibly, the British marque claims a range of up to 373 miles. Equipped to charge at an incredible 420kW, a 10-80% charge takes just 20 minutes.

Kia EV9

Kia plans to have 13 EVs in its lineup by 2027, and joining the impressive EV6 is an all-new electric SUV dubbed EV9. This large vehicle is effectively a more premium successor to the popular Kia Sorento, seating up to seven – with an innovative swiveling seat option on six-post variants, it’s an intriguing machine due in the UK in late 2023.

Capable of a 350kW rapid charge, you can gain 62 miles of range in just 6 minutes. Buyers will have a choice of rear or four-wheel drive, with the former providing maximum range while the latter delivers added traction in poor weather conditions.

Fisker Ocean

You might remember Fisker from some years ago as the maker of a beautiful electric luxury saloon that was arguably a little too ahead of its time. Now with the EV revolution well underway, their next crack of the whip takes the form of the Fisker Ocean SUV.

Rivalling the Audi Q4 E-Tron, Tesla Model Y and BMW iX3, it’s packed full of intriguing tech including a rotating 17.1-inch touchscreen display – similar to the BYD Atto 3. Buyers will be able to choose from three models offering up to 275, 397, and 390 miles of range. The high-performance Ultra model claims 0-60mph in just 3.9 seconds thanks to 543bhp and all-wheel drive. All versions can also be fitted with Fisker’s SolarSky Roof solar panel, boosting the cars range using the sun. For those of us wanting to use conventional rapid charging, it will take just 30 minutes to get from 10-80%.
