SEAT Spotlight

Seat has been around for over seven decades and offers a broad range of cars, including hatchbacks that are easy to park, fashionable SUVs, and practical people movers. All are well-equipped even at low trim levels, representing good value, while FR trim provides a sportier look.

Models such as the compact Ibiza are great for town driving, but the larger Leon with its distinctive interior offers more space and can also be had as an estate for those with a four-legged member of the family. If it’s an SUV that you hanker for, the agile Arona, larger Ateca, or seven-seat Taracco might be the ideal model for you.

With the departure of the much-loved Seat Mii city car, it’s the Ibiza that now opens the range. Under the bonnet are efficient but brisk three-cylinder petrol engines while its compact proportions contain excellent equipment levels. All cars come with an 8.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system as standard, but stepping up from the entry trim just one level gets you a larger 9.2-inch display.

The Leon has been a staple of the Seat range for a long time and serves as an excellent family car. Petrol and diesel options are available to suit all needs, as well as the aforementioned estate as an alternative to the conventional hatchback body style. Again, equipment levels are great with a large 10-inch infotainment system standard on all but the entry car.

The Seat range is furnished with a series of peppy petrol engines and longer-legged diesel options, but it’s the Leon that has introduced an element of electrification to the range. Seat’s Leon eHybrid is available as both a hatchback and spacious estate complete with 620-litre boot. Its 1.4-litre petrol engine is paired with an 85kW electric motor for a total output of 201bhp. Its 12.8-kWh battery offers up to 38 miles of pure EV driving.

The SEAT Range

Arona is the smallest of Seats SUV offering and is ideal for those looking for a high-riding car with a sense of style, but smaller proportions. It majors on agility versus competitors with a practical interior being ideal for a growing family.

Scaling up, the Ateca provides even more space. A large boot opening makes it ideal for transporting the family dog, while lots of cabin storage means you can even bring the kitchen sink. In FR trim this family SUV benefits from a more athletic look and some excellent sports seats.

If you’re in need of some serious space, the seven-seat Tarraco is for you. Two deployable seats in the rear means there’s space for everyone, while the middle row can slide forwards and back to optimise leg room. If you need to carry bikes or a few more people, this is the largest Seat of the range.

Electrification is coming to Seat, but for a fully-electrified offering from Spain its Seat’s sister brand Cupra that features some great options. Cupra was once a sub-brand within Seat, but now exists as its own entity.
