The Renault EV Range

A lot can change in a decade, especially in the world of motoring. Only 10 years ago electric cars were still seen as a bit of a novelty with quirky vehicles like the Renault Twizzy quadricycle capturing the headlines, or Fluence with limited range. The French marque then introduced the highly successful Zoe hatchback soon after that broadened the appeal of electric motoring. Now it’s the turn of one of its most established nameplates to go all-electric for the first time.

The Renault Zoe

The Renault range continues to offer the more compact Renault Zoe hatchback – a model that has been continuously improved over the years. This B-segment car now comes with a 52kWh battery with a range of up to 238 miles. Typically a charge from a 22kW charge take around three hours, however, optional 50kW charging capabilities delivers 90 miles of range in 30 minutes.

Renault’s Zoe has got better with age, not only in terms of battery technology, but also when it comes to equipment. Cruise control, a 9.3-inch infotainment system compatible with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, navigation, and a 10-inch digital driver’s display are all standard.

The Renault Megane

The all-new Renault Megane E-Tech Electric is the first of Renault’s ‘traditional’ lineup to drop the petrol pump in favour of a plug. While this design sports some bold SUV-inspired styling, it retains the proportions of the traditional family hatchback. As popular as SUVs are, Renault’s compact models are better suited to urban environments and offer greater efficiency.

When it comes to motors and batteries, the Megane keeps things simple with a single 60kWh option producing 220bhp. On a full battery it will cover up to 280 miles and when plugged into 130kW rapid charger the Renault can recoup 186 miles of range in just 30 minutes.

In addition to its chic modern appearance on the outside, the Megane’s interior is impressive. Seating five in comfort, high quality materials have been used throughout for a premium feel. Technology is also a big part of this cabin with a large digital driver’s display and responsive touchscreen infotainment system. In fact, the latter features advanced anti-glare and anti-smudge coatings to keep this display crisp. The infotainment system also hosts integrated Google Services such as its world-renowned Maps function.

Speaking about the car’s onboard technology Renault’s Design Director Gilles Vidal said

“We have been able to work with the best to provide accessible and user-friendly applications, thus offering an enhanced connected experience. Google Maps, Google Assistant, Google Play Store are all embedded into this system.”

The characterful Renault Twizzy has now departed the range, but the Mobilize Duo is due to replace the fun-loving EV in 2023.

For those not quite ready to make the jump to full-electric, Renault offers its Captur compact SUV as a plug-in hybrid with a 32-mile electric range

Many Tusker customers are already enjoying a Renault EV via its salary sacrifice scheme. One affordable monthly payment encompasses the vehicle, maintenance, and insurance. EVs also benefit from lower BIK rates and running costs.
