Behind the Scheme: Ian Henderson, HR, Rotherham Metropolitan Borough Council

Rotherham Metropolitan Borough Council have recently resigned on the CPC framework, continuing their CPC Drive car scheme for another three years.

“…the open procurement framework made CPC a cost effective way to introduce the scheme.”

The Council originally launched with CPC Drive in 2011 so are celebrating 10 years of providing this sought-after benefit to their employees.

Ian Henderson, HR Manager at the Council explains, “The Council’s reason for introducing the benefit was to reduce the carbon footprint of the Council’s grey fleet, and support the Council’s green agenda. There was also the need to improve recruitment and retention of employees”

The scheme provides significant savings to the employer and employee on electric and low emission cars and promotes the benefits of taking these vehicles to employees through regular communications. As a carbon neutral company, uniquely, CPC Drive also offset the tailpipe emissions for each vehicle on the scheme, ensuring they have minimal impact on the environment, which CPC Drive have been doing for over 10 years now.

Ian Henderson continues, “We originally chose CPC Drive as they were one of the leaders in the field and the open procurement framework made CPC a cost effective way to introduce the scheme.”

It’s simple to set up and manage, with CPC Drive providing a dedicated team to lead the implementation of the scheme and ongoing reports make it simple to administer, Ian agrees “We find the administration of the scheme straightforward with any issues easily and quickly resolved. Our employees like having easy access to a new car and having all their motoring costs in one amount. ”

It seems employees at the Council feel it’s a great benefit to have as Ian comments, “Our last employee opinion survey showed 66% of the workforce were happy with their pay and rewards package, which is high for a Local Authority and we make significant savings on our employer on costs. ”

The scheme continues to provide hundreds of Council employees with a brand new car, complete with insurance, road tax, replacement tyres, servicing and maintenance thanks to the CPC scheme.

Ian concludes, “Our relationship with CPC Drive has been positive over the years and they remain one of the key scheme providers so we have resigned with them to provide this service for at least the next three years.”
